Chapter 1 - Setting up and Configuring WinUAE
Size_of_hdf_in_megabytes * 1024 * 1024 = Number_to_type_in_bytes_box)
You should now see Workbench3.1 and Programs drives listed.
From WinUAE 1.3 you will notice another tick box called 'More accurate FPU' - This is optional, I would untick this box for now. You only need to enable if you experience problems running software which require 'Strict FPU Emulation' - see this post)
- Chip - Set to 2 MB
- Fast - Somewhere around 8 MB
- RTG (graphics card) - Somewhere between 8 to 32 MB
- Select AGA
- From WinUAE 1.3.3, also tick Faster RTG (When RTG (P96) screen mode is active, this will disable any emulation features not in use/required, giving you a slight speed boost.)
If you want Windowed display, remove the tick from 'Full-Screen' and 'Full-Screen RTG modes' boxes.
- Sound Emulation - choose Emulated 100% accurate.
- Sound buffer size - I find it best at around the 4 to 5 setting
- Frequency - choose 44100 Hz
- Stereo Mode - choose Stereo
- Optional - From WinUAE 1.3.3 you will notice a new tick box labelled 'Automatic switching'. Ticking this box will disable sound emulation when it's not required, reducing CPU load, and auto enable when the software requires sound)
- Optional - From (approximately) WinUAE 0.8.22 Release 7 + you will notice the settings part has changed. Click on the / dropdown to select Frequency - 44100 Hz. Also I find Audio Filter is best set to 'Emulated'. (or from WinUAE 1.3'Emulated (A500)').
- Optional - From (approximately) WinUAE 0.8.22 Release 5 + you will notice the Interpolation options have been changed to Disable, RH and Crux: I find Crux to be the best option to use. (This has now changed to a dropdown box).
- Optional - From WinUAE 1.3 two new Interpolation options have been added, so now it lists: Disable, Anti, Sinc, RH and Crux - use either Sinc or Anti Interpolation.
- From (approximately) WinUAE 0.9.90 you will notice two new dropdowns, Stereo separation and Stereo mixing delay, leave these set as shown in image above (70% and -)What does RH and Crux stand for?- Crux is Berndt Schmidts old handle. - RH stands for Richard Hoffmann. (Thanks to Lockrobster for the information) For more information see this thread on EAB.
If you plan on adding CD-ROM support (scsi emulation) then tick uaescsi.device box
If you plan to add Internet support then tick bsdsocket.library emulation box
Also I would tick the Synchronise clock box Convert to vmdk for mac.

Value vs. Plus and Premium Editions
The Value Edition of Amiga Forever includes the same emulation, Workbench 1.3 and 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3 'Kickstart' ROMs as the Plus Edition, but it does not include the other system versions, nor items of historical interest. This is sufficient to run a majority of Amiga games, but it does not include or support more sophisticated and modern Amiga applications, including some games.
The Value Edition, while including an uncompromising productivity and compatibility content, does not include the following items from the Plus Edition:
- KX Light boot option
- ROM and operating system file versions 0.7, 2.x, 3.x, etc.
- Personal Paint additional documentation and artwork
Amiga Forever also comes in a physical package, the Premium Edition, which includes the Plus Edition software and additional video content on 3 DVDs.
Windows vs. Other Platforms
Amiga Forever Value Edition comes in a dedicated Windows version, which is easy to install and run.
If you do not intend to use Amiga Forever on a Windows system we recommend that you purchase the Plus Edition or the Premium Edition, which include both Windows and non-Windows content.
